12 Oct 2009 - Bird Conservation in Italy - David Lingard

Davids provided us with some stunning images of days he has spent in the field, including some special areas to which he had access to in his time in the services - did he really say that number of Short Eared Owls?? However, the main focus of the evening was on the impressive work undertaken by LIPU, with help from the UK, on Bird Conservation in Italy. Major reductions in shooting pressure , especially of Honey Buzzards around the Straits of Messina, was good news. Less good was the trapping of passerines in Northern Italy. A key message was that education, especially of young people, remains crucial and this is clearly working.
